It sounds like a movie; one minute you’re working as a waiter in a Mexican restaurant, dreaming of making it big – the next, you’re plucked from obscurity to co-host one of the country’s highest-rating radio drive shows with media darling Sharyn Casey.
Except this is real life, and exactly what happened to Jayden King in 2019, when he was carefully selected out of five finalists as the winner of the legendary “Quit Your Day Job,” a competition to find Sharyn a new co-host for her drive show on The Edge.
Easy-going and light-hearted, Jayden has always been known for his huge smile, upbeat attitude and endless positivity. Born and raised in the Waikato (his iwi is Te Ati Awa - Taranaki - and he has conversational Te Reo), his family moved to Auckland for the latter part of Jayden’s schooling. With three sisters, Jayden had to hone his communication skills very finely…paving the way for a career as a “professional talker.”
He has also dabbled in a bit of character acting! In 2019 Jayden worked as the integration coordinator for The Rock, but also guested as “K-Hole,” a “party-loving bogan” who would visit the studio every Friday morning and give his opinions on inappropriate topics to The Morning Rumble crew. K-Hole was incredibly popular and ended up with quite a fan-base!
Jayden describes himself as an “absolute lover-of-life, happiness and kindness.” The causes that count for Jayden are those that advocate for mental health; and he is passionate about bringing an end to bullying.
On his downtime, you’ll find him spending time with his girlfriend; watching or playing sport; immersing himself in the arts, whether it’s cinema, music or dancing; or indulging his passion for cooking – and eating – amazing food.
Jayden brings his wild creativity to any project he takes on, whether it’s MCing/hosting; voice work or content creation – his rampant positivity makes him a client’s dream.
