Born in New Zealand and raised in Samoa, Deschanel spent his early years immersed in the rich culture of his Samoan roots. After completing primary school in Samoa, he moved to South Auckland, the beating heart of Pasifika culture in Aotearoa, where his identity and pride in his heritage continued to grow.

A proud graduate of De La Salle College in Māngere East, Deschanel lives by the saying: “You can take the boy out of La Salle, but you can’t take La Salle out of the boy.” His time there shaped not only his values but also his deep connection to brotherhood, community, and faith.

Deschanel went on to earn a Bachelor of Communication Studies, majoring in Radio, at AUT. It was there he discovered his passion for broadcasting, a passion that now fuels his role as co-host of the MAI HOT 20 with Shay. On air, Deschanel brings his unique Pacific flair, South Auckland energy, and a voice that resonates with the communities he represents.

When he’s not behind the mic, Deschanel is likely exploring local eats, lifting at the gym, or spending time with his whānau and friends. Through his social media platforms, he shares real, unfiltered glimpses into his life, celebrating culture, connection, and the everyday moments that matter.
